It is really hard to sometimes know exactly what you should grow. Shiny seed catalogs can be fun to flip through but what should you actually grow? I will help you ask clear questions to help you identify the best things to grow.

How Much to Grow

We will discuss how to determine amounts you need to grow. Using helpful charts with yield amounts, I will help you strategize what is right for your family or whoever you share your garden space with.

Companion Planting Basics

A centuries-old method of growing plants, I will teach you how to use it as your guide for planting. First, we will learn about it and how it works. You will see how it will make higher yields, a full garden, and more. Then we will put it to work in designs.

Planning for Perennials

From grapes to raspberries to asparagus to flowers there are amazing perennials we can bring into our designs that are powerful tools and I will show you how to plan for them along with the rest of your garden. You will see what an asset they are.

Creating Your Design

We finally get some pen to paper or whatever way you want to design and show how to get things going. You will watch as I share my own design process with you for my own garden and how I think through it firsthand.

Using Crop Rotation

I will teach you the basic methods of crop rotation whether through the seasons in the year or year after year. I will take the complication out of it as well. I promise it is simpler than you think. But we can use this in our design as a way to build soil and extend the growing season.

Creating your Planting Schedule

Okay you have a design but how do you actually bring it to life? I got you covered! I am not going to leave you hanging. We will use specifically designed handouts to help you mentally get organized and actually set dates in the calendar so it is easy in your busy schedule.

Execution of Your Design

With your design and schedule in hand, we will talk about execution and how to start making it come to life from deciding on seed, starts, or direct seeding. We will talk about what to do with erratic weather and more so you don't feel left to fend for yourself. I will make sure you succeed!

Is this for beginners?

Yes absolutely. I would also suggest pairing this with our Backyard Beginner Garden E-book as well so you can know how to care for your garden through the entire season, but this goes much more in-depth into the important foundational parts of creating a great garden. As well as discussing Companion Planting, Perennials, Seeds v Starts, and SOOO much more.

Do I have to be in the United States for this to be relevant?

Absolutely not, you can live in the Southern Hemisphere and this still works for you. Though I cover zones for first and last frost date info, you can easily just replace this small section with info for wherever you live.

What if I just want the handouts and tools?

Yes, you can purchase these without the whole course. These tools are really awesome and easy to put into practice especially if you are a more advanced gardener. You can purchase just the tools on their own here as a download. It includes 3 companion plant designed gardens as well.

What kind of gardener is this best for?

All levels to be honest. There is a lot of info here and unique ways to approach our gardens with an environmental impact at the top of mind. Using companion planting isn't a new idea but it is one we have steered away from for a long time in the home gardener world, which is a shame. If you are not familiar with companion planting and have had issues with pests, weeds, and more in the past as a gardener, you will enjoy this course even though it is about planning. Seeing how to plan and integrate plants together into mini-ecosystems and communities is a powerful tool no matter your skill level. Bonus! It is amazing for pollinators and the planet. How is this course different from the Beginner Garden E-book?

The Beginner Garden E-book is designed to give clear and concise info at an accessible price to as many beginner gardeners as possible Though we discuss design it is not as in-depth as we go in this course with strategizing hard places to garden and how to overcome them. In this course, we also discuss perennial plants, the importance of Companion Planting, and how to properly schedule and plan your garden off of your design. There are over 6 hours of learning in this E-course with an over 25-page handbook full of tools and charts to help you build a strong foundation for your garden.

Though the Beginner E-book offers info about going into the Maintenance, Harvesting, and preservation parts of the season it is a good companion but by no means hits anywhere near the information we discuss in the e-course.
